Norway Grants in the Environment

The Environment, Ecosystems and Climate Change Programme is one of the largest and most significant programmes implemented in the Czech Republic with the support of the EEA and Norway Grants. Its main objective is to contribute to improving the state of the environment and to support sustainable development in all its aspects. The Programme covers a wide range of areas—from biodiversity conservation, air, water and soil pollution reduction and energy, to climate change adaptation and environmental education.

Since 2018, the Programme Operator has been the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic, which not only manages the calls but also provides co-financing for supported projects.

Preparations for the 2021–2028 programming period are currently underway. You can follow updates on the preparation of the new programming period on Facebook and Instagram.

What have we achieved so far?

In the 2014–2021 period, 165 projects were supported, sharing a total allocation of almost CZK 900 million.

With the support of the Norway Grants and the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic  and in cooperation with Norwegian partners, we have:

  • Improved living conditions for dozens of endangered animal species through effective landscape management.
  • Enabled the introduction of innovative measures to protect nature and promoted international sharing of best practices in biodiversity conservation.
  • Tested innovative technologies for a new stage of wastewater treatment, making it possible to remove micropollutants such as pharmaceutical residues.
  • Monitored air pollution in dozens of problematic locations and prepared and implemented action plans to reduce air pollution.
  • Created more than 40 new climate change adaptation strategies for municipalities and regions.
  • Implemented several dozen green and blue adaptation measures, such as new parks, large-scale greenery planting, new water reservoirs and flood and erosion control measures.
  • Raised public awareness of environmental protection through dozens of educational projects.
